Summer is creeping up slowly, so the urge to purchase new or replacement patio furniture is brewing in many of us. 'Going Green' is the latest trend in many different aspects of daily life. Simple things such as purchasing products that use recycled packaging or the classic 'reduce, reuse, recycle' philosophy, it seems that eco-friendly may be a trend that's finally here to stay. Today's consumers need to be more aware of the environment around them, but they also want to continue their lifestyles. Here are some great places online to find eco-friendly furniture so you can keep throwing your backyard summer parties.

On a side note, be sure to steer clear of teak outdoor/patio furniture that is advertised as 'eco-friendly.' Teak should not be labeled as eco-friendly because 2 of the 3 main species of teak furniture are on the endangered species list, and it also takes upwards of 80 years to mature (and therefore is not an easily renewable resource.) Check out this article for more information on why teak is not eco-friendly.

1. Thrift Stores

Okay, so this isn't an online store with the latest and greatest in eco-friendly patio furniture; but you can purchase used furniture at a local thrift store at the same effect, and save some money. With the money you saved, you can purchase eco friendly stains and paints and repaint or refinish the furniture. Voila, new furniture that's eco-friendly (because you've purchased it used,) and looks great.

You can also search eBay for local furniture to pick up - follow the same tips for refinishing and again, new furniture - for a fraction of the price!

2. PatioFurnitureUSA.com

This website has a small selection of eco-friendly furniture, many of which are made from recycled plastics. However, be sure to steer clear of the teak furniture.

3. PatioShoppers.com

This website offers up plenty of eco-friendly products. I recommend checking out their eco-friendly outdoor furniture covers. By using these furniture covers, you are prolonging the life of your outdoor furniture, thus in return reducing the need to frequently purchase newer furniture which in turn is eco-friendly because you are producing less waste by throwing out old patio furniture. Being eco-friendly is easier than you thought!

Plus, many of the covers can be purchased for under $50, so it's budget friendly and eco-friendly.

4. Gaiam

Gaiam is a great online company that offers eco-friendly outdoor furniture. They offer eucalyptus furniture - a renewable resource that's more affordable than teak, but has the same look, feel and of course, appeal.

5. Eco-Furniture.com

GREENCulture offers a great selection of outdoor patio furniture, including tables, chairs, rocking chairs and bar furniture - great for holding outdoor parties.
